I’m gonna let you in on a
not so little secret. I’m cheap. That’s a large part of why I DIY. Why buy it (or pay someone to do it), when I can make/do it myself for less. I work hard for my money, so I have a hard time justifying spending a large amount of money on any one thing. Furniture included. It’s only been recently that less than 50% of our furniture is from IKEA. I’m slowly starting to bring in “real” furniture, thanks in large part to Craigslist. Why did I wait so long before trying it out??
I’ve purchased a handful of pieces off of Craigslist over the last couple years. It has to be the right piece at the right price. So naturally, when I was in search of a dresser for Emma’s room, I hit up Craigslist first.
After weeks and weeks of searching, I found this:
Solid wood. Dovetail drawers. $75. And, of course, the right size. After all, I was going to be using this as a changing table too, and I didn’t wanna be too hunched over.
It was missing a pull, which was a shame. I really liked the pulls, but couldn’t find a replacement. :o(
Then I had to decide on a color. What to choose, what to choose?
Coral! Perfect! So I ran to Home Depot, grabbed some paint, and got to work.
I really think the coral adds a little bit of girliness to the room, without being too little girly. I really didn’t want a bunch of pink. This dresser needed to grow with Emma. I don’t want to have to paint it again later when she’s “too big” for pink.
The card catalog pulls . . . LOVE! I ordered the exact same pulls she used from the site she recommended.
Requirement of card catalog pulls? Pretty labels! :o)
I love how this transformation turned out! I tried to keep most everything neutral, so this dresser is just the punch of color the room needed!
What do you think? Don’t you just love the coral? Another Pintrest win! :o)
